Dubbed "the explainer" by Wired magazine, Michael Wesch is a cultural anthropologist exploring the effects of new media on society and culture. After two years studying the implications of writing on a remote indigenous culture in the rain forest of Papua New Guinea, he has turned his attention to the effects of social media and digital technology on global society.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
You have inspired me a lot. I am a graduate and recently I have created my own lectures and put them on Youtube because like you said, we should put knowledge out there. This world is no longer limited by just getting information from teachers. Students too, should take part in knowledge creation.

This is by far the best and most eloquent presentation that I've heard from TedXNYED. Well done, Mr. Wesch.
