This was during the second mass at St. Sulpice when Daniel Roth, the titular organist, allows people to come up to see the console and watch as he plays. You can tell when he is playing that he improvises a good bit- notice he will stop reading the music and only focus on the manuals. Sorry, I didn't realize I was filming sideways at first...

  • What is the name of this piece? I would like to hear it complete without the ending cut off

  • This was composed by the late 17th - early 18th century composer, Louis-Nicolas Clérambault, and the piece is Basse et Dessus de Trompette from Suite 1 for organ.

  • I've always felt that Daniel Roth would sound good even sideways . .

  • He might even sound better sideways, who knows...- sorry about that!

  • Parts of the improv are almost Elizabethan/15th-century English in nature. Interesting stuff!

  • Take a look at F Couperin's 'L'Art de Toucher de Clavecin' for a full description of the idiocyncracies of French 18th cent performance practice.
