Drivers kill thousands of people in the UK every year, How many hours driving would we advocate before taking 1 hour of supervision !
Thousands of people in the UK are still being killed by carbon monoxide poisoning despite regulation by Gas Safe, and formerly, CORGI (an organisation stripped of its teeth because of ethical issues)
Go to the HPC on Monday the 1st June 09 and see the outcome of the Gale case and see if you think there shouldn't be some sort of regulation after that.
There are not enough comments on this video. Aside from the angry and uninformed whose claims about the efficacy of the NHS is extraordinary(see above) more therapists need to see this. Please authors, start virally spreading this before disaster overtakes us.
So Denis doesn't believe that the Department of Health, who run the NHS and its vast services and resources in the very complex environment of the multiple facets of medical provision have the capabilities to understand that him and his cohorts make up any old nonsense, call it 'humanistic' therapy and flog it to vulnerable people as somehow loving and caring! Ho yeh you forgot to add that you charge for your 'love' didn't you Denis?
Somehow Denis has got himself carried away on a wave of false binary oppositions. The so called proffesional bodies in therapy have shown themselves to me to be incompetent. Nothing stops anyone setting up as a therapist with no training, potentially causing huge damage. Some basics must be put in place. We're not talking about people being clones (though that's the hysterical response here, but people with basic knowledge and skills, applied in their own way and, if you insist, with love.

Therapists don't kill !

I think there has to be some sort of regulation in the training of therapists.
Mostly centred around getting personal therapy, supervision, and a good knowledge of the basic modality that the trainee is learning.
But as for guidlines of 'treating' particular conditions...
... I'm worried that things like 'NICE' guidelines are going to stifle therapy and drain the life, the spirit, out of it.
Attempts to manualise therapy will rip out the human heart of psychotherapy.

Denis gets to the very heart of the issue. This needs saying, again and again. Well done and thank you--Jinny
