A song I wrote late this this fall as I gazed out the window of my new place at trees and pondered all the strange changes that I was now faced with. It's not a happy song, but it conveys the truth about how I sometimes feel about getting older, loosing hope and nursing broken hearts that time seems unlikely to mend.

Though I'm feeling much better now, it was great therapy to confront these feelings in song. That is the beauty of the blues, even though this is not really a blues song. Thanks for listening.
Words and music by Maureen Kilgore

Words came like a bitter frost. The sweetest love was lost.
My heart just died like a leaf still hung up on a tree,
on branches bare, even now, like the gray in my hair, like the furrow in my brow as I ask how can you really love me?

I can't let go though cold winds blow and all those voices told me so long ago I can't remember, I can barely recall, in the darkness of December, all the colors of the fall.

I look into the looking glass at the break of day.
This is how a girl goes gray. This is how a girl goes away.

Seasons change, but the years remain the same, and history just keeps on repeating itself.
You think you've found your way but then the time slips all away and you find yourself alone with all the hate you always feel for yourself.

Time is all around me and it's spread around like dirt.
One day they'll take my body and they'll lay it in the earth.
When all the best parts of you start to dry and wither, I don't know how I can survive another winter.

I sit here in the darkened room at the end of day.
This is how a world goes gray. This is how a girl goes away.

  • Thank you so much for the kind comment on my song.

  • Hey Ron. Thank you. That's all I ask from my guitar playing. My vocal has always been the thing. That's good food for thought.

  • Thank you Rocket. You as well with that music, my friend.

  • This is just totally great, Maureen. Wonderful voice you have. I love that guitar riff as well. You use your guitar to support the song, not the other way around (which is the wrong way unless you are Johnny Winter, hehe). -Ron

  • This is a very beautiful song Maureen just right for a Sunday afternoon : ) Keep the great music coming my friend *****
