All a United Methodist pastor is used for is 1) being chattel at the disposal of a usually highly narcissistic Bishop:don't believe me? read the Book of Discipline and you'll see that all pastors serve at the disposal (and that word cuts both ways) of the bishop. 2) to be "narcissistic supply" for the hierarchy. If you do not comply, you will be dealt with severely.
There will come a time when you will "know too much"---a time when you will get the knife in the back for your years of service
So don't become a United Methodist Pastor. Just go to a normal denomination that values "called" people for putting forth effort in ministry schools across the nation that equip the saints to be pastors without the ordeal (THAT ISN'T BIBLICAL). :) Just go do it! I regard myself as a "Shepherd" of students: went to youth ministry school (4 yrs), graduated, have already worked two full time ministry jobs, am 28 yrs old. Have made a difference for Jesus without the ordeal.
"I just want to make a difference for Jesus" is the refrain here. The old guy says the young guy can do that through small groups without waiting for ordination. That is true. What I think the cynical author of this video is really trying to say is "I want a job here because I think I can attract more people than you can, old fart. And then I can be just like my heroes Mark Driscoll and Rick Warren. Sweet! " Maybe that is true--but it isn't "making a difference", it's making a living.
