@pepsyboo, the genetics here are a lot more complicated than even that. Mayzie left Horton a fertilized egg, with DNA already intact. How could it possibly be an "elephant" bird? DNA transfer by osmosis?
And if anybody accuses me of taking this too seriously, I'll take my tongue out of my cheek and whack you with it.
