I played this record a hundred times in my teens, with Lalo Schiffrin and in a medly with "Long Hot Sunner" by Tito Puente. A special thrill was to see Dizzy play it live with a small group in the 70s with Mickey Roker on drums. Dizzy played the melody much as here (There is also a great French live date where Moody plays the melody) *but half-a-beat delayed* so the whole melody was on the off-beats -- one of the most technically amazing pieces of musicianship, and so clean no one noticed.

do they even count?

the piano IS good, but doesn't beat the syncopated stuff that Lalo does on the original live recording. thats like some of the best live piano playing ever...
