I by no means want to sound like I think I'm some educated martial artist, but this to me looks like just one exercise in a chinese sword style. It seems similar to sticking hands in Wing Chun. Just an exercise in deflecting the energy of your opponent. Not the entire style of swordplay itself.

Does she EVER score a hit on his "center line"? No she doesn't, so to answer your question he clearly does unrstand the concept of a center line.
