Many people fog the backyard to keep the mosquitoes away. Over-the-counter insecticides are effective but often overused. University of Missouri entomologists say the number one offender of pesticide misuse is the homeowner. Many homeowners dont read the directions on the label. Scientists at the MU Delta Research Center are looking at insect resistance. They say it's important for homeowners to use the right amount of insecticide. Too much too often can kill butterflies, lady bugs and other beneficial insects. If mosquitoes buildup a tolerance to the chemicals then we all may be out of luck.
