Kaitoke Regional Park in the Upper Hutt region of Wellington was the chosen location for the Rivendell scenes in the LOTR films. CYOJ hosts, Camille and Agnes, learn, however, that many sets built and scenes filmed were never used, and out of 900 hours of footage taken at Kaitoke (aka Rivendell), only about 30 minutes actually made it onto the final cuts of the films! (Thanks again to our Flat Earth tour guide, Tim!)
Seems a little inefficient and very costly... 3 months of building, for just 20 minutes of screen time.
