Video of Puffing Billy steam operations between Belgrave and the landslide site. Featuring locos 6A, 8A, 14A, G42 and diesel DH31. Please excuse the lopsided angle on the final shot: the movement took us by surprise, and I didn't have time to properly set up the tripod! Still photos from this day can be found here: http://martin-bennet.fotopic.net/c1170231.html

  • Wow - people SITTING on the window sills. That would NEVER happen in the US - too many no-fun nanny-state rules. Heck, we're hardly allowed open windows!

  • Yes, I too am constantly surprised this hasn't been banned yet! Sitting on the window sills has always been a traditional part of traveling at Puff', and hopefully will last long into the future.

  • Excellently, really very good. Note to a number of other YouTube devotees - invest in a tripod!

  • Very good advice, especially if you are like me and take still photos with another camera at the same time!

  • Sitting in Japan watching this with my son who's 20 months old and he is enthralled! Can't wait to take him when we return for Xmas! Great vid.

  • i went on this today and sticking my legs out ws fun

  • I think I may have ridden on this, but I was too scared to actually stick my legs out.

It's strange how the steaming engine just looks like it belongs... If it were a diesel or electric it'd look out of place.

  • @Taitset it is a tradition and thats a good part about it.

  • Great Video Martin!

  • This looks like fun!!!

  • Even more freedom of expression than the Isle of Man!

    BOB p.

  • I remember as a very young child riding the train and then stopping at a station. One of the rail workers then showed us how he would fry an egg for breakfast on the hot iron under the train. We thought this was amazing!

  • ahhh memories, earlyer this year i went to my school camp from werribee and we went to a camp called wombat corner which was just around the corner from the emerald station (or a 5 min walk) and i remember going on this train and id sit on the windows and stiick my feet out ( Which ur alowd and id LOVE it) and my friend lost his shoe going past the landslide bit LOLbut yeah there was great memories and id love to go back for another ride.

  • Have so many pleasant memories of firstly as a child riding on Puffing Billy and going to picnic at Emerald lake. Then as an adult taking school children on excursion there during the holidays.....and yes we all sat on the window sills!
