The next morning, I stood and dressed and did the usual preparation for the day. I took a look in the mirror to make sure I
didn't look like I'd been drunk when I got dressed and then headed downstairs.
I answered all the good mornings with a nod and grabbed an energy bar on my way to the door. This caused some concern for my
mother had cooked quite a large breakfast and I'm usually the first to attack, so to say.
"You ok Joe?" she asked me with a concerned smile.
"Yeah mom. I'm fine. I just need to do something."
"Alright. Well, don't be gone to long. We're going to the beach today."
"Fine. I'll be back in a bit."
I walked out the door, leaving my family extremely confused.
I only made it about halfway to the car before Kevin came up behind me and grabbed my arm so I would stop.
"What's going on? Usually when you fall in love you get hyper and your supposed to be excited. I mean, that's what its
supposed to be all about."
I just kind of looked at him for a moment before replying.
"I'm sorry. I just, have a lot on my mind. I have to do something."
"Well, how about I come with you. Maybe I can help."
I nodded and we both climbed in the car. I looked over just as I was pulling away and there she was, coming out of her house,
probably heading for mine. But I couldn't stop, not just yet. She would understand when I came back.
Kevin waved to her joyfully and then we were gone, down the street and out of neighborhood. Straight into the mall parking lot.
We walked through the food court and up the stairs to the main jewelery store.
Kevin and I walked around and searched for about 2 hours before I finally found them, the perfect ones.
We payed for them and had them wrapped up so much that there was no way anyone would be able to tell what they were
until opened.
We walked back down to the food court after that and got some food.
"That was a fairly big leap after just a few hours at the mall with her." Kevin said as we sat down.
I half smiled here but there were no words to describe how fantastic those few hours really were and how little of them was
actually spent at the mall, he caught on though.
"Oh My God. Did you really?"
I nodded.
"But, your ring?"
"Was in the bathroom."
"Wow."
"Yeah, it was."
This statement, of course, left him silent for quite a while, until we got up to leave.
"Now I understand why we did this."
Again I just nodded as we slid into the car.
"So, when are you going to give it to her?"
"I don't know. The time has to be right."
"True. How about while we are at the beach. You can pull her away in the water and slip it on her finger."
"Thats a pretty good idea. Thanks Kev."
"No problem. Now, lets get home before mom freaks again."
We pulled into the driveway five minutes later to see Nick and Eleanor shooting some hoops in the front yard.
Kevin jumped in and stold the ball from Nick and took a shot, and made it, giving him the opportunity to gloat
about his skills.
We all just laughed and I took my little package into the house and set it on my dresser. I stripped down and
pulled on some swimming trunks and ran back out. Things felt normal now that she was around.
I wrapped my arms around Eleanor from behind which caused her to squeal slightly because she hadn't seen me
coming. I tickled her sides and then stole the ball and took the next shot.
"WHO WANTS TO GO TO THE BEACH?"
