United by a shared conviction that physical activity is the best way to reduce noncommunicable disease globally, the American College of Sports Medicine, Pan American Health Organization, CDC/World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Physical Activity and Health, and the President's Council on Fitness Sports & Nutrition came together Sept. 18, 2011 for a special side event held prior to the UN High-level Meeting on Non-communicable Diseases. Hundreds came out to share their belief in the health benefits of physical activity.

The side event drew the U.S. Surgeon General, national ministers of health, Olympic athletes, delegates to the U.N. High-Level Meeting, and leaders from nonprofit organizations, philanthropies, and industry.
