What Jojo meant about his drum heroes playing kinda "wrong" was that they didn't have the best/efficient technique or played kinda sloppy or not clean. His point was that you don't need to be a technique monster or the cleanest player to make great music.

He was not faking humility.The mention of Tap
Dancers in the 20's is a very good observation &
like the other guy said "nothing new under the sun
is absolutely correct. The man doesn't have to say
"I'm great or the best". He's just applying his God
Given talents & probably considers himself a
Student of the Drums....until the end!

Jojo is genius simply because he looks carefully around him and at nature itself and searches for the smartest ways to do something, the most productive ways. He's clever and obviously unimaginably talented. But I must say, I've been replicating his techniques and even after just a year I'm already benifiting from it. He simply plays 'smart' and naturally and it's only logical that it works.
It's actually his musicality and 'nerve' that I admire most and which makes him my favourite musician!

Nah, I think Jojo is too consistently humble to be faking. I mean, knowing your capabilities and being arrogant about them are two different things. He did an amazing interview in the newest MD where he says point-blank that expressing genuine emotion with you play is more important than any technical ability. He says that the super-technical prog rock bands are slaves to "mediocrity" because of a lack of inspiration, not lack of skill. Though, I do love Jojo's "tap-dancing" line :)
