Steve teaches Bear Creek Hop in his Fingerstyle Blues book. It's on his second album IIRC, which might be out of print now. The tune isn't too hard to pick up, although struggle as I might, I cannot get the palm harmonic "hop" part to sound right.
Just caught Steve James at a small local blues festival - he played these two pieces among others. Didn't know the name before, you can bet I won't forget it. What a musician. His deep knowledge, love and respect for the old time music is clear and his playing is just beyond words. Fantastic storyteller too. I'm not a musician, but I know *real* music when I hear it and brother, this is it.
This is his take on Libba Cotten's Spanish Flangdang ....

Steve James is brilliant, just seen him on my country on an excellent performance. He also took his mandolin and played some really good songs.
