Part 1 of the June 21st 2011 WNYP chase I took part in is here! This was my first time ever railfanning the WNYP, and I got some proper Alco action on video! We left Rochester early in the morning, and as we got close to the NS Southern Tier Line, we could hear train 309 calling signals, so we waited for it to arrive at Pennycook Road in Portageville with fairly mundane NS GE power. Our odyssey continues and we arrive in Olean, NY, world headquarters of the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railway, where numerous Alcos are on display. Among them are the three units that will haul our train, WNYP M636 #637, RRPX Leasing M636 #41, and sister RRPX M636 #43. The three big M's fetch six covered hoppers, and depart Olean Yard as train DFT-21. We give chase in the usual fashion, catching the train in downtown Olean, and again at South Eldred, before road construction destroys our lead over the train. We finally catch up in Liberty, PA for two more shots, then we shoot it at the famous Keating Summit bridge, then at the base of the hill at Gardeau, PA. The rest of the route into Emporium parallels State Route 155, and I get a couple of highway-side shots of the train on this road. Shots from Emporium and Cameron are next, before the video ends with a shot of DFT-21 pulling up at the absolute signal at CP-NORTH DRIFTWOOD, the south end of WNYP territory and the beginning of NS territory. Part 2 will pick up where Part 1 leaves off, so look for it in the next couple of days, and enjoy!!

  • do that single work at 8:20

  • @conrailforever1999 It does not; nearly all of the CPL's between Olean and Driftwood have been deactivated, and a bunch of them have already been turned sideways, or even ripped out all together...

  • Nice Shots Matt! Looks a bit familiar! That darn construction zone got us too...We were gonna head to Port Allegany to get the meet with OL-2 but that prevented us from getting it.

  • @coryrusch I'll be eagerly awaiting your shots, man... You must have known it was me that day the exact second you saw me... LOL
