Mark Lanegan's solo albums are sufficiently dissimilar in tone from those of his regular group, Screaming Trees, to make listeners wonder where his true interests lie. His records often employ a much more acoustic tone, and address much more serious, personal concerns. Despite ample critical acclaim, Lanegan always kept the Screaming Trees his primary concern (that is, until their breakup). The original plan for Lanegan's first solo recording was to do an EP of blues songs with Nirvana's Kurt Cobain and Chris Novoselic, as well as Screaming Trees drummer Mark Pickerel. That didn't work out, and The Winding Sheet ended up being recorded with Pickerel, guitarist Mike Johnson (later bassist in Dinosaur Jr.), and noted producer Jack Endino on bass

  • He's one of the best musicians ever. Can never have too much of his music.

  • I'm lucky enough to have seen Screaming Trees 5 times in my life..when "Dust" came out (BTW one of the best rock album ever done IMHO) I saw them in Birmingham, Cobain had just died, and him and Mark was great friends...and he looked like he was dead himself..it was shocking..he has lived a live that is as rough and as his wonderful voice is....what a very haunting man...was lucky enough to meet him once, a very cool, very drunk guy so was I, he was really cool though.

  • no one can flick an ash like mark

  • @MikeTeleto Whiskey for the Holy Ghost, The Winding Sheet, Scraps at Midnight, Field Songs, and I'll Take Care of You are all extremely amazing albums. All of them are a must for any Lanegan fan.

  • will ferrell singing :-D

  • Will Ferrell looks good in a wig :P ....But in all seriousness its another great song beautifully sung by Mark Lanegan. His level of soul renders many other artists on this planet irrelevant for me.

  • Thoi

  • @hrco85 So true.

  • was this directed by phillip morris? ;)

  • @MikeTeleto his first album"the winding sheet" is very much like this,i also reccomend "scraps at midnight"(his 3rd,also his fith"field songs" has that style

  • Whiskey for the Holy Ghost is such an amazing album. Does Mark have any other solo albums similar to this? From the bits and pieces of his other works, they don't really sound too much like this album, but maybe I haven't heard the right songs.
