The games came out years before the movie did minus the last one Vol 3. It has no relation to the movie.

Weird, I don't seem to remember the characters running around blasting big guantly white things with shotguns in the movie... In fact, it seems to me that the reason that the Blair Witch Project was so scary was because you DIDN'T get to see any monsters. Just hear noises and let your imagination run wild.
