Emile Grimshaw (1880-1943) was an English banjoist and composer who wrote over 70 pieces of music for the finger-style banjo. Many of these pieces were then adapted by the composer to the plectrum banjo. This represents a treasure trove of plectrum banjo
repertoire that today is largely unknown outside of England.
The Clifford Essex Music Company, Ltd was the original publisher for much of Mr. Grimshaw's music and his well-known method books; the recently revived company is now on a mission to reintroduce this great composer and his extensive body of work to the current generation of plectrum banjoists.
I have been hired to update and modernize the collection, and I am excited to say that this is great music! I have long lamented the apparent lack of written plectrum banjo music; this project has shown me that "yes, there is a plectrum banjo repertoire!" One of the main tenets of the update is to put them into Tablature, making them much more accessible to the non-reading player.
Several of these updates have been completed (along with various other arrangements), and the sheet music is available at the Clifford Essex website (go to Sheet music--Plectrum banjo).
