Canada's own Oscar Peterson, with I believe Ray Brown on bass and Ed Thigpen on the drums, pushes his way through a classic version of "Night Train".

Recorded in 1962.

It seemed inexcusable that the Guns N' Roses version would be up here and not this one.

  • Sorry for not knowing to any haters but is this the original? If not who wrote the original?

  • @ExtradensicMusic

    It's not an original.

Search out a version by Jimmy Forest. I think it's from the 50s. This version is from '62.

  • Where is the bass player andf drummer on this track?

  • @aimeemacdn

    Where??

I'm not certain what you're asking. The bass player couldn't be any higher in the mix and the drummer is obviously playing with brushes.

  • Canada's own? They wanted to make this man Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, but he wouldn't take the post. Finally a musician gets (is offered?) what he so richly deserves. Well done, Canada

  • Yes, Canada's own. He worked in the States and Europe, but he never moved outside Canada. The man's part of our culture.

And with all the Nickelback's running around, we can use as many like him as we can get.

  • @jessiepolka, Personnel are correct. Recorded New York City December 16th 1962.

  • Oscar = THE CONSUMMATE ARTIST!

  • @EuchridEucrow1 -yes, although Jimmy Forrest 'borrowed' the main riff from an earlier Duke Ellington piece called 'Happy Go Lucky Local'

  • I LOVE THIS!!! and I can play it on the piano;),+ I can impro on it;)

  • straordinario

  • This was originally a hit by the Buddy Morrow orchestra. The personel on this recording is Oscar Peterson, piano; Ray Brown, bass; Ed Thigpen, drums. Just guessing, I think this was done in the 70's.

  • @aimeemacdn In the background.
