Baby goes Hi Teck.
The baby gorilla loved to play with human toddlers in his size range, watched the baby (behind the camera) intently, and wanted it to come over and play. Several times he even waved or motioned to the toddler and was disturbed when the toddler left.

Baby gorillas watch their mother show them how to do tasks.

He was intensely interested in my camera, the camera case, and my watch. He even motioned me to let him look. He also returned my waving.

He also watched himself in the camera view finder (I turned it so he could see himself) and made faces. Don't know whether he recognized himself, but he definitely looked into the view finder and made faces.

The mother was very protective. She kept her eye on him. When she thought something might be dangerous, she came to look things over. She spent some time looking over the camera case.

The gorilla (gorilla gorilla) is the largest of all living primates. These African apes are divided into two species and 4 or 5 subspecies. Their DNA is 97-98% identical to that of humans and they are considered the next closest relative after the chimpanzee. Gorillas can be over 6 feet tall and weight over 500 lbs. They are highly intelligent. Some such as Koko have been taught a subset of sign language. They use tools for a number of purposes. Colo in the Columbus zoo is over 50-years old and the first gorilla born in captivity.

  • priceless experience that one

  • The gorilla was thinking: "What an odd species. I must remember to try to teach them some manners."

  • @ericaj58 i know ..it makes you wanna go in there and interact with them

  • Poor mum gorilla! Her babys a window licker! Dad prolly ran off and abandoned them when he found out!

  • Great footage and close ups...he was probably looking at your watch thinking..."I haven't seen THAT since 1980..."

  • That was so cute!! Very interesting!!

  • @HordeAreMyFatCousins We humans are selfish. But look closer at say chimps.

The very emotions we have they have too. Even the bad ones. Many primate societies are based on bullying. The biggest makes the rules, fear and wisdom keeps subjects in line. But of course humans have found new ways to inflict fear, like religion.

Would it be different if any other creature dominated? Probably not.

  • Why are you showing it a video cassette?

  • When I saw the title I gueseed it would be a test with a coloured spot on the face.

    (Mirror test).

  • Thanks for the documentation.

But it must be very boring in this cage.
