These easy to make blocks add great accents to any quilt. For example, they are used in the Stars in My Window quilt pattern available here: http://quiltbus.com/phoebe-moon.htm

@Melatina77 I don't agree! But that's okay, everyone does what is best for them. This block comes out square and can be sent into a quilt with different blocks around it.

This is very interesting but a real cathedral window is easier and faster to make then this. What is the point?

i really dont consider this a foux window because its just as much work as the so called real window pattern., this pattern is quite good because it gives the quilter more color choices. Thank you

Well, thank you! There are any number of variations I have seen of this block - the technique has really taken off! Have you tried sewing it into a little square and stuffing it? It's tricky - you have to sew two sides together, squeeze it in half, then sew the other sides as quarters so all seams are enclosed (with a little bit of an opening for stuffing.) I will try to do a video of that.

Yes, but the shapes you start with are very awkward. This is really the only one that works.

I put a little bit of fluff under the middle square and then fold the edges over to sew, making the window and giving just the center a little puffy look and feel.

I took 3rd at our quilt guild's contest with a quilt using this method of making the windows. I enjoyed having a technique that the other quilters (some who had quilted for more than 50 years) did not know. Thank you for the video, and the technique. :)

I am addicted to your block. I now make them for a Nu who gives them to sick patients in a nearby hospital. After completing a batch, I carry them around in a little square basket wherever I go and do the handwork. I am told that some patients even cry when they get them. Thank you for sharing this with us. We now call them "Prayer Quilts".

I love the way you explain in detail, how to make this! I made a block similar to this but in a different manner. I really enjoyed how you explained it, thanks for sharing!

I have never tried a cathedral window, so I have no idea which method works the fastest or the best. But, I enjoyed watching the video. I love having several different ways to make things. Then I can choose what works for me. I hope to try this.
