  • locojacket,

Some sticks, I peel the bark off of within a week or two. But others I leave the bark on until I decide what I'd like to do with the stick. Some folks can't wait to take the bark off a stick but there are advantages to leaving it on, and it's not only because it helps against splitting. You can do some neat color variation designs on sticks with the outer, inner, and sapwoods and they look really cool. I think most of mine are ready to go at about a year or slightly over.

  • How long do you wait before you strip the bark off? Sometimes I take the bark off when I get home, but recently I have let a couple sticks 'season' for over 4 years now. What is your take on 'waiting time' before you strip em down?

  • I'm a big fan of Mora knives. It's true that their wooden handled carving knives are too slippery. I have a few of the red handled ones and have been considering refinishing the handles.
