Chaos of drugs. Seems to be demonized in the eyes of the public. Maybe that is why he is "strung out". Drugs just alter our senses, sometimes in new directions never seen before (if done responsibly, but who does that anymore). Our reality is a matter of sensor stimulation, and psychological responses. Maybe those drugs influenced him to make these sweet melodies? Art and Drugs, seems like a perfect pair.

Okay, I love the album version, but this is the best live version he's done. Period. It makes me cry every time. This was performed at a time when he was deep into drugs and it's obvious, here, that's he's strung-out. And yet, amidst the torment of drugs and being strung-out, he still sings with sweet delicacy of longing for his home-state (North Carolina), as if he longs for a time before the chaos, before the drugs. Country. Alt-country. Who cares? This is art, no matter the genre.

So, so true. Thanks for being an open minded person. God knows it's so refreshing to see a comment with some intelligence behind it.

Dude, wether he's worse sober or not, you really shouldn't say stuff like that. It's great that he has sobered up.
