If anybody wants to see how it's done - please ask.

The idea behind getting really s l o w motion is firstly to overcrank. Shoot at 60fps (60p - progressive) then use After Effects to conform the footage to 30fps. This will give you 50% slow motion with no loss, as each frame will be a unique frame. Then, reduce the speed by another 50% in AE or Motion, using Optical Flow and you will end-up with 25% slow motion which will be really high quality. If you were to go from 100 down to 25% just using optical flow, the quality will not be as good - especially at 1080p resolution. Original footage shot on a Xacti SH1 720p @60fps. You can't really see here on YT but when done, there is virtually no loss of image quality compared to regular HD.

The point is - how to get decent HD slo-mo footage NOW without investing in a Sprintcam or waiting for the next generation of consumer cameras.

  • The trick is to make sure you shoot at 60p first...:)

  • The length of stride makes them look like they're keen to get somewhere.

  • Very nice. I'll try this with my Kodak Zi8. I also bought a Casio Exilim FC100 that shoots at 210fps, 480x360. Inexpensive and fun to play with.
