[PLEASE READ] One of her most exquisite "heartbroken" song interpretations.

A "buried treasure" from Janie's 1981 album SLEEPING WITH YOUR MEMORY. The song suggests material covered so well by her peer Olivia Newton-John.

SLEEPING WITH YOUR MEMORY—like nearly all of Janie Fricke's albums recorded for and released by Columbia between 1978 and 1985—has never been released to CD. Isn't that a remarkable statistic for a CMA-Award-winning artist? Fans: please petition Sony/Columbia online today for digitally-mastered CD releases of all the following titles:

SINGER OF SONGS (1978)
LOVE NOTES (1979)
FROM THE HEART (1979)
NICE 'N EASY (1980) w/Johnny Duncan
I'LL NEED SOMEONE TO HOLD ME WHEN I CRY (1980)
SLEEPING WITH YOUR MEMORY (1981)
IT AIN'T EASY (1982)
LOVE LIES (1983)
SOMEBODY ELSE'S FIRE (1985)

Thank you.

Are you asking "Who the hell is Janie Fricke?" (Pronounce her last name as if it were spelled "Frickie.") She's probably the last great female traditional-country singer in the music's history. I like to think that the best qualities of so many of her predecessors and peers strive within her voice and uniquely distinguish her style—Patsy Cline's yearning, Loretta Lynn's passion, Tammy Wynette's intimacy and heartache, and contemporary Reba McEntire's honesty. Janie was the Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year in both 1982 and 1983. Seven of her songs and one album (1986's BLACK & WHITE) charted #1 on the US country charts. Although commercially—but never artistically—eclipsed by McEntire and, later, by Martina McBride, an equally strong country-vocal stylist, Janie continued to record in a dazzling variety of genres (e.g. country, bluegrass, gospel, "the Great American Songbook") and—as of this writing—still performs. Check her out.
