I wanted to demonstrate my very own Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph. It's a mechanical phonograph with a few unique features, including:

-a diamond needle in 'hill-and-dale' configuration
-volume control
-auto stop when the record finishes

I play the Blue Danube Waltz at the end. The Edison Company produced these machines in West Orange, New Jersey around 1915 and a for several years afterward. It has a great sound reproduction and a beautiful case.

  • I have owned a number of Edison's dimond disc machines, and to my knowledge everyone had an auto stop. The volume control dates your machine to after 1916, They were made from 1913 until very late 1929. They are not 78's, they should go 80rpms. you can get a strobodisc to check your speed. Sound quality is good, could not make out the record number when you showed it, but most #'s higher than 52000 would be electrical recordings. This one is hard for me to tell. Late acoustic/ early electric?

  • Sounds really good! Too bad your lighting was so poor as it was almost impossible to see the detail.Perhaps you could make another video with proper lighting next time.

  • I collect antique phonographs. I have four machines so far. An edison standard B and a standard D with a 30 1/2 inch horn an edison diamond disc machine and a thorens excelda. All of my phonographs except for the throens excelda sound great. The excelda had a pot metal ring in the reproducer that swelled and cracked and now the reproduer is useless. I have rebuilt the reproducers in all of my machines. It sounds so great when I play the diamond disc Margie medley fox trot.
