2 Big Rigs Burn On Highway 299

Only minor injuries were reported by the two drivers after two big rigs met on Highway 299 just west of the truck escape ramp in Montgomery Creek Tuesday. Richard Charleston, 30, of Modesto was traveling west about 1:50 p.m. and hauling hay when the load shifted and the hay spilled into the path of an empty eastbound logging truck driven by Patrick Jones, 44, of Fall River. The hay caught fire, caused both big rigs to ignite and also caused about a two-acre grass fire on both sides of the highway. Two helicopters and two airplanes dropped water and fire retardant on the blaze, preventing it from spreading further. The highway was closed in both directions and traffic diverted along Woodhill Drive.

this the road that i counted 21 big rig going over the speed limt on that road last week going to burrny . th hay truck was prouply going over the speed limt . the truks go to fast for that road .
