According to Kallidaikurichi Mahadeva Bhagavatar, a torch bearer of the Dikshitar school: "People sing Devakriya akin to Suddha saveri.That is incorrect. There is no panchamam in the avarohanam of Devakriya. It is sa ri ma pa da sa and sa da ma ri sa." Thus it is more about the treatment of the notes, which are more akin to the Hindustani raga "Durga". The other posts in the comments for this video appear to have the wrong aarohanam and avarohanam for Devakriya, entirely, at least according to

Muthuswami Dikshitar composed this song in the ragam Devakriya, as evidenced by the ragamudra tactfully placed in the samashticharanam (bhudevakriyamoda).

It's not that different from Suddha Saveri, so it can be confusing to many listeners (and unfortunately some singers too). In fact it is so close that Devakriya = Suddha Saveri minus Pa (in the avarohanam). Aarohanam is the same for both ragams.

There is no mess up. Devakriya is completely different from Suddha Saveri and this is clearly Suddha Saveri.
