@RSW1950 LOL! strangely enough, I've often wondered...didn't mens' hairstyles back then smear anything they touched, like furniture, pillows, girlfriends' hands, hat bands, etc.?
For those who care, the "sawn-off banjo" is a mandolin-banjo, made to play mandolin music with a banjo tone.
With modern string technology, they were able to shrink cello banjos considerably, and the new ones made by Gold Star are small enough to play like a regular banjo. But still noticeably larger than a standard instrument.
