Migrating grain boundaries (white lines) drag and drop mobile particles (blue dots) during grain growth simulations, using the package Elle (http://www.materialsknowledge.org/elle). The type of grain boundary - particle interaction is dependent on the ratio of grain boundary mobility and particle mobility. Here the particle mobility is low and grain boundaries get pinned. The mobility of the particles is controlled by surface diffusion.
