My response is always "It likes you too"
works like a charm.

Lately I've been called smart by various friends b/c I do math. I usually tell them that mathematical ability has nothing to do with intelligence, but I think that the humble attitude just makes them think it more so.
If I'm given a compliment like I'm hot or something I usually just smoothly change the topic (I'm a dude so it'd prob be weird not to).

I would compliment you and your videos but I feel a bit intimidated now. Instead i'm going to say hello. Hello.

omg the end made me lol

I try to compliment back but that sometimes gets awkward. I try NOT to say "oh no actually..." because that's rude to the the person that complimented you. Sort of like saying their opinion didn't count. My favorite compliments are the ones that you have to leave DIRECTLY after so they can go "oh I like your new hair cut" and you go "why thank you" and continue walking quickly. :)

Ahhh I do the exact same thing! I try to just say thank you, then I say something stupid to negate it, like, "I love your shirt!" "Oh thanks! ...it's a really old hand-me-down from my sister, if I raise my arm you can actually see it has pit stains and it used to smell like moth balls... umm... yeah."
But I have been trying to just say, "Oh! Well thank you!" (So I sound surprised and appreciative.) :D

I just say thank you if it's a boy and maybe compliment back if it's one of my girl friends but mostly just thank them :)
There's a 5th way and it drives me mad
Complimenter: "I really like your dress"
Complimentee: "Urgg it's horrible I look so fat, you're just saying that to make me feel better, uhhhh FML"

Just let the person who complimented you know that you truly appreciate their compliment... That's what I do.

I have been working on saying thank you. Typically it goes, "Wow! Your video was hilarious and truly changed the way I think about life. May I worship you forever?" (the last bit may have been made up/my fantasy) to which I respond with, "Oh, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!"
I used to be all, "Oh... ummm... yeah..." and avert my eyes to not look the person in the eye.
Sorry, but you said there were four ways to receive a compliment; I only saw you explain three of them. Am I crazy?

"Thank you, it's sweet of you to notice/say that." Smile like you're happy with their comment and then change the subject.
