This is an abbreviated version of the story of missionary pilot Nate Saint and fellow missionaries Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Jim Elliot who went to Ecuador in 1955. This is a multimedia presentation I saw at a Steven Curtis Chapman concert a few years ago and is available on his "Live" DVD. Steve Saint has a ministry that continues to help the native tribes in Ecuador. See http://itecusa.org/ to learn more about his ministry. The songs in this video were written and sung by Steven Curtis Chapman. The songs are "God is God", "For the Sake of the Call" and "Children of the Burning Heart".

  • For those interested in "the rest of the story" read "Through the Gates of Splendor" by Elisabeth Elliot, "The Journals of Jim Elliot", "My Savage My Kinsman", "Shadow of the Almighty: The Life and Testament of Jim Elliot" and "These Strange Ashes: Is God Still in Charge?" all by Elisabeth Elliot.

See all the documentaries "Through the Gates of Splendor" and "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" and the movie "End of the Spear."

  • the missionaries were young, white and dead ! too bad

  • it gets really good at 1:44

  • @mamaserene I DO understand about CHOICES, and some stranger out there "telling" me I'm not a spiritual person is no better than the missionaries around the world shoving religion down the throats of people who've done well without the invasion of religion. "Judge NOT lest ye be judged." I'm no biblical scholar, and being "white "(also part Native American) does not make me a lesser human being.

  • @mamaserene just read this personal message..shakes head.

@mamaserene "u are not a spiritual being if u were truely a spiritual being u would understand that all life if entitled to make its own choices without being threatened and constantly invaded by white missionaries. and soon as something goes wrong they paint the tribes as ruthless savages and the white missionaries as perfect angels doing gods work. such a lie and discust"

Sent from a "man of color"..as IF being white= less than

  • I lived with 'stone age people' myself...my father discovered a tribe of indians in the Amazon in 1962...and he brought my mother, brother and sister and me to the jungle...so yes...I lived this life...except for one thing...my father was not killed...we were the first 'white' family they ever knew. I have lush and vivid memories of my 8 years as a child with the people we called family. Indeed @drewsroo is right...it was not human love that brought us to them...it was beyond 'human' love...

  • @dbell10

What? Human love sent them to that place? Human love wouldn't have gotten them out of the states. Human love would have made them want to stay home and grow their families and focus on nothing outside themselves. Did you even read the quotes of the men? Seriously? Human love made them want to give their lives freely? Why isn't everyone out there freely laying down their lives for their enemies then? No. One Person 2000 years ago did that. We follow his example.

  • these fair skinned people were at the wrong place at the wrong time, too bad they're dead

  • I just read "Jungle Pilot" after watching this movie. I am a spiritual being having a human experience and found this film to be QUITE fascinating. I am not a "religious person" though I do believe in a "higher power"..as a mother I've always told my daughter there is NOTHING she could ever do or say that could cause me to love her less. Great story!!

  • @danv6504 "These tribes are basically cavemen." with an attitude like that, no wonder they killed those people. "Not everybody wants our help." so what do you expect when people come trottin down to your home to proselytize their faith? "A red carpet?" and THAT'S why they were killed.
