There were slaves in the north AND the south. Also civil rights did not come until the 60's. Further...we are still not "there" yet.... The "slave" mentality is still in most of the minds of many less fortunate Americans(financially less fortunate) of all colors. Then you have the average person who is financially "enslaved" by credit cards..... many of us are slaves regardless of skin color....

The Republican party was formed by abolitionists. After the 15th Amendment was enacted, blacks voted Republcian, until 1933 during the New Deal when FDR agressively bought black votes with the promise of welfare. Ironic how the party that lost their black slaves after the Civil War, was able to buy them back not so many years later.
