"tongues" is for communicating for those who dont speak the same language as the preacher....if it is GIBERISH, it is not tongues. God would have no purpose in that type of babbling and it serves no purpose. the "gift of tongues" is for communicating the word of god to those who dont speak the same language. geesh!!

The gifts of God are given to worship God with,in a church service,so that God can run the service instead of man,when this happens this is a real revival where God runs it completely.All the gifts will manifest because God runs all the gifts, if one will submit to God completely. Jesus christ the same yesterday today and forever ,,,people quit on God not  God quiting on us.Thats why these baptist dont believe is because the pentecostals dont stay close to God to get the gifts.

Dr. McGee is a wonderful teacher , but he is the one who is confused on this subject. The gifts did NOT disappear with the apostles. People still prophecy, speak in tongues, see visions, have angels minister to them, heal the sick, and yes, can even raise the dead if God wills it.

The Holy Spirit that people have today, is no different than the Holy Spirit the apostles had 2000 years ago. McGee really just had an archaic, old timer view on these things, as many old timers of his day did.

@nurser11 Tongues is for praying for things that you don't understand. The way it was explained to me is that you may be praying for someone halfway across the world that has cancer, that you would have no way of knowing about. According to the bible it edifies the spirit. It is such a simple, yet glorius way of praising the Lord and edifying your own holy spirit and praying for others needs that you don't even know. What a great God to give us such a wonderful manifistation of His Holy Spirit!

The modern tongues movement is nothing more than voodoo brought over from the Carribean islands to Azusa Street; it is the same demonic spirit that King Saul had when he attacked David. Genuine "tongues" is actual foreign languages not gibberish. Do some research. Forsake this foolish modern-day babylon of confusion.

@borecleaner1 If one speaks things contrary to God, how then does that Glorify God ? As it is written,"how can two walk together unless they agree".Simply put if one does not agree with ALL of Gods Word, how then can they say they walk with Him ? They simply can and do not.J.Vernon McGee spoke things contrary to God and His Word, so how then did he walk with God ? And yet you can not accept the Word of God wholly, how then can you walk with HIm and not accept His All ? I Pray your eyes be opened

@MrTaills My brother,I rejoice in the diversity of worship within the body of Christ.I wish you well and I wish you a deeper and more satisfying relationship with God.Some subjects we may simply need to agree to disagree but NOTHING should obstruct fellowship or sadden the heart of God by two of his kids arguing about different subjects..What matters to God is not the language we use,but that we come before him with a purity of heart and seeking him for himself.I think THAT glorifies him

@borecleaner1 the Spirit of God IS God....and without the Spirit which itself bears the Fruit how if you have No Fruits of the Spirit whom HE Is, How then are you of Him ? The Holy Ghost Witnesses of Himself , that self being God....if there is No Witness of the Spirit,which are those fruits He bears btw , then there is NO Spirit of God there. The Thief on the cross received the greatest Gift of all Salvation and etenity in heaven with the Lord.No Greater Fruit/Witness then that one ..huh ?!!

@borecleaner1 READ GODS WORD ,Name any Born again Child of God in which the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues was not named among them ?Even the Gentiles who didn't know Jesus received the Holy Ghost and began speaking in tongues at the hearing of the Word........Paul said I thank God I speak in tongues more then YOU all, BUT I would rather speak that you can understand then speak in tongues where you can not understand, BUT They all who had the Spirit of Giod spoke in tongues,everyone!!!
