On Monday the 2nd of November, the 5th round of the North-West Premier League kicked off at Don College. The night had some explosive matches in store, and none failed to disappoint.A comfortable 13 goal win over Sharks, saw The Reds take a well deserved 4th place position on the overall standings. The Reds have only lost two games in the first 5 rounds; a 9 goal punishing by Galactico, and a single goal loss to top-of-the-table Strikers Youth, back in round two. However, they made up for these two slip ups by defeating two of the strongest teams in the competition; Dynamite and Strikers. As a result, all three of these teams are now equal on points in the standings; having all lost two games each.Strikers narrowly lead the three-way tie on goal average; their 4 goal win over Launceston Galactico on Monday night helping considerably. Strikers have made it a habit in the past to start slowly, and quite typically they have done the same this season. They
have, however, hit tremendous form over last three games. Huge improvement from keeper, Luke Brown, have seen them concede less and less as the weeks roll by, and fine finshing from every member of the squad have ensured the scoring continues at the other end. At present
Strikers look unbeatable, but the true test will come when faced against Dynamite or Strikers Youth once again.
Strikers Youth are travelling comfortably at the top, having only lost one game to date. This loss came to their senior side by a single goal, and the next clash between the two promises to be an electric affair. Strikers Youth held off the Dynamite quintet rather comfortably on Monday night, and with Jordan Douce, the league's leading goal scorer,
still in fine form, they have earned their right to be considered a major title contender.The return legs begin on November 9th, and with not even the Sharks out
of top four contention, the race home promises to be exciting. Will The Reds keep up their tremendous red hot form and finish in the top four?
Will Dynamite continue to crack under all the pressure and hype? Will Launceston Galactico reach their true potential? Who will win the 2nd Devonport Strikers derby? Be sure to come along to Don College on Monday evenings, from 7pm, to see the season unfold.
