Roman Polanskis sleek political thriller, based on the best-selling novel by Robert Harris, revolves around a ghost writer (Ewan McGregor) hired to pen the memoirs of an ex-British Prime Minister (Pierce Brosnan) after the accidental death of his press secretary and original scribe. Transported from London to the ex-PMs stylish windswept island retreat (the architecture of the principal locale is pure Hitchcock, as is the film overall), the ghost begins to unravel a complex web of intrigue that is far more sinister than he anticipated. When the ex-PM is accused of war crimes, his sharp, intelligent wife (Olivia Williams) intervenes in the ensuing media frenzy.
