This was my second Great Central Railway / Steam Railway Gala, and it certainly matched the high standards set by last years event. To counteract the Express theme that ran through last years gala the line held the Heavy Metal Gala with emphasis on freight locomotives. 9F 92203 Black Prince, owned by Renowned Wildlife Artist David Shepherd, and WD Dub Dee 2-8-0 90733, making its first visit away from its home line of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway joined Fairburn 2-6-4T 42085 which was coming to the end of its one off visit away from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, plus the lines home fleet. The Full line-up was:
|BR 9F 2-10-0 92203 Black Prince (visiting from the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway)
|WD Dub-Dee 2-8-0 90733 (visiting from Keighley and Worth Valley Railway)
|LMS Fairburn 2-6-4T 42085 (visiting from Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway)
|BR Britannia 4-6-2 70013 Oliver Cromwell
|GCR 8K/O4 2-8-0 63601
|LMS 8F 2-8-0 48305
|BR 2MT 2-6-0 78019* (not in this part)
|SR King Arthur 4-6-0 30777 Sir Lamiel*
*78019 was failed on Friday so 30777 took most of its turns on the Saturday. However the 2MT was fixed in time to work her rostered 5:15 departure from Loughborough. Please note that 30777 will soon be leaving the GCR and probably not returning, so this was its last day in operation at the Loughborough line. The Plan I did was:
|9:30 Loughborough Central Quorn (42085/30777)
|11:19 Quorn Rothley (48305)
|12:20 Rothley Leicester North (70013)
|12:50 Leicester North Rothley (70013)
|5:36 Rothley Loughborough Central (70013).
Please Note, I was going to head down to Quorn at 3:45 but I realised that I had left my camcorder bag at Swithland, so had to run back and get it. I met up with Jules46443 for most of the day but also was with Pennysteam for about 30 minutes and briefly saw GWRDec and theonlyadsrulz when they passed me at Swithland.
In this video we start off at Loughborough where we see 92203 draw out of the shed and pull up alongside its express cousing 70013. Moving on to quorn we see the Fairburn and 30777 (which Jules and I referred to as the Standard Arthur throughout the day) departing. Both locomotives will soon be leaving the railway for good. The Dub-Dee then passes the TPO equipement at Quorn with a freight, opening up just as she passed me. The Fairburn arrives on a light engine movement and couples up to the Windcutters, taking them away and being passed by the brit on the TPO. Many thanks to the Driver Richard Todd for putting on a great performance. The 8F then returns north with the freight. Unfortunately in my way was a lamppost which I swear was not there last time I was at quorn!!! Black Prince then departs with a passenger train, having arrived whilst I was filming the 8F. The Standard Arthur then arrives back with her train. O4 63601 then passes slowly through the station on the windcutters, a job she was designed to do. We end this part with the Dub-Dee storming through Quorn on the return of the TPO.
Great video! You captured some trains which I saw on Saturday at Quorn aswell and I must have been standing only a few feet away from you!
