Chinese retail revolution hits Europe

Despite the gloom of an economic reccession, shoppers across Europe have descended upon stores for post-Christmas sales.

In the UK, consumers spent more than $23 million dollars in the first three hours of trade but it is wealthy foreign tourists who are filling the aisles.

When the cash flow from the British shopper has been declining, the influx of big spenders from China is very welcome news.

Al Jazeera's Simon McGregor-Wood reports from London.
