Thanks for posting this!! As a disabled guy myself (albeit a married one) I've been through the whole thing with girlfriends (and my wife) having to defend themselves against people lambasting them for being with someone in a wheelchair. Bravo to you, sir. And may you find that smoking hot brunette!

@351460 I believe that it is starting to change. I think we will soon see more women "coming out of the closet" about this. In fact, I hope to help them do so with the novels I write about the female dev experience!
-
@RuthMadison It definitely seems that males are more open about their attraction to women who are physically different. I do not know why, in the more open society of the current era, that women who find disabled men attractive tend to keep it a secret.
Are they perhaps worried about scorn or ridicule?
They should not be--everyone is entitled to their preferences.
The disabled women I have known seem to be evenly divided in their acceptance of those who are attracted by their differences.

@351460 I think there's more of us female devs than it seems. We're quiet and hidden a lot of the time!

@RuthMadison yes we are ;)

im disabled n i find that girls get put off dating me i have spina bifida

Apparently--there are far more male devotees than female ones, though I have heard of several non-disabled women who are attracted to disabled men. Sites such as OverGround give some background on the phenomena, and there is more information available through links posted on DevGuide.

I never really thanked you for posting this. I am definitely a devotee, and I've known this for about 15 years... since I was a pre-teen. I also thought I was a total freak but now I don't think so. I am a female and I really don't know how many female vs male devs are out there. Never had the opportunity to love a disabled man.

You're cute....

im a lbk and i still get laid its no problem with girls it just depends on your attitude and how well physically your able to carry your self i dated a girl for 2 weeks and when the time came she took off my pants and saw that i was missing she was blow away that she didn't guess it or even noticed it before we laughed and had sex. later.
Is it really a *preference* for me as a PWD if the person could care less what I'm like as a person, as long as I've got four wheels? I think it's objectification, no different than guys for whom breast size is the only deciding factor for a sexual partner.

But then you're not talking about a Devotee you're talking about a person with a disability fetish. Or at least someone who is really shallow and can't see passed the physical like the guy who only cares about big breasts. A shallow dev will just want the wheels, a normal one will like the wheels but if you're an ass they don't want you. I know too many devs that are great to not call it a preference.

Though I think that you being a lady might get the more shallow devs giving you the most attention. Not that all straight male devs are shallow, guys are simply more visually stimulated and as a result are more interested in what they see. But I'm just speculating.

I thought so too.. I read somewhere that there are wayyy more male devs than female (although it's very common for women to be more comfortable with dating a guy with a disability whether they are devs or not), and it cetainly seems that way - I've seen so many of those trashy stealth youtube vids of women with disabilities and it creeps me out.

Yeah I think those videos are from fetishists with voyeuristic tendencies. They just think they're devs. But its a disability fetish.

wow, thanks man, i've just recently stumble upon this whole concept, and before i always just thought i was some kind of a freak b/c i find men in wheelchairs very attractive. iam pretty sure that iam a devotee (not a fetishist). theres this really cute guy who i go to college with in a chair, and i'd find him cute even if he wasnt, but i dont wanna just go up and talk to him bc i dont want him to think iam only talking to him bc of his chair...

Just say hi what's the worst that can happen? People in chairs like to feel hot too.
