Maiden voyage on my "Survival Bike" themed Motorized Bicycle. Note: The engine has not been tuned yet. The video was taken less then 5 minutes after the first firing. I'm confident that with some tweaking I can get it dialed in better. Also, I need to adjust the limits on my derailleur, as it wants to pop out of low gear (you can hear the engine popping as the derailleur slips)

Info:

The engine kit is a 68.5cc Black Slant head kit purchased from BoyGoFast on ebay. Decent price but he didn't send me exactly what I ordered. Although we worked out a slight refund and I'm somewhat satisfied I would have preferred he had sent me what I paid for in the first place.

The shift kit was purchased from Thatsdax. The quality was okay, but for about $30 more (including shipping) I could have gotten so much more from Sick Bike Parts. Not to mention Dax provides no instructions. He has a couple of "how to" videos but as of the time I'm uploading they are incomplete and only take you about 1/2 way through. I used Sick Bike Parts instructions, and even had to purchase a few parts from SBP that didn't come with the Dax kit.

The bike was an old Mountain Bike I had sitting in my backyard collecting rust for a decade. Before I bought any other parts, my boys and I stripped it down to the bare frame and gave it its cammo paint job. That was a fun father-sons project. However, after realizing exactly how bad most of the parts were on that old bike, we ended up spending around $100 just to make it a decent ride-able bike again. Since this bike now had sentimental value to my sons and I, we went ahead and spent the money to fix it. Had I to do over again I would have just purchased a new bike from the get-go.

    I did.

  • I definitely like the title "survival bike". My thoughts exactly.

Where are you at in Oklahoma? I used to live in Moore, and worked in Bethany and Norman.

  • @tabcan

The video was filmed in Sand Springs, but I've since moved to Claremore.

  • survival? carb is out of tune

  • motoredbikes com. I ride one to work. Plenty of tips and threads to help you tune it. good looking build so far. Good choice on the fenders. You might use a metal Star Nut in the bottom of the fork instead of the plastic ones.
