Music Hall chortler Charles Penrose's first recording (I believe) of his famous Laughing Policeman song - under his stage name of Charles Jolly. Lol, lol!

  • It's the first time I've heard this version, nice collectors item!

  • Charles Jolly (Charles Penrose) was from Biggleswade! Not a lot of people know that!

  • There seem to be a few different recordings of this by Mr Penrose. I have the Winner version which is a bit stiff and Victorian. My favourite is still the Columbia with Stan Greening's band - much jazzier.

  • This reminds me of my Grandpa, don't know why - he wasn't a copper and he didn't laugh!

  • Nice Songs!
