He made a blog entry about this recently? I haven't gone to his blog in long time, but I remember his posts about this SAME topic in past years, I believe 2-3 years ago. Now, again. Desperate effort on his part, yes certainly re-framing things but to completely mislead. Very irresponsible, I agree!

@deafchipmunk....LOL I love to hear you wrote "KookyNut" ....First of all, ASL was learned from hearing person long, long, long time ago. LOL That is how we are embracing our ASL. To be honest with you, Kookynut's blog was some grammar errors and does he understand his own English & vocabulary? Holism is behind the mask which he is collecting herd mentalists (his friends and followers). LOL

@deafchipmunk, it's not only irresponsible, it's just a "straw man" argument. I see this in many vlogs/blogs by a certain set people who define themselves as "anti-Deafhood." These people misunderstand something very central: that it is the *combination* of prejudice + power that is so dangerous that it literally threatens lives. Cultural hegemony makes a modern eugenics movement possible. Deaf people do not have cultural hegemony, hearing people do. That is what needs to be fought against.

@deafchipmunk Some Deaf people at Maritime areas in Canada use and read Maritime Sign Language. Mexico is part of North America. I see that I misunderstood you. Lol. Yes, I'm glad we understand.

@LSmae2 Wow. I read somewhere that Protestants, evangelists, and few others tried to control the White House and fought to keep biblical verses in courthouses. In 19th Century, a pastor preached hate against Native Americans at his church in Missouri. He walked toward a Native American and shot him at close range on a hill.

@Banerika You said it all... Hegemony is the one we are fighting against. Our mission is to remove the hegemony from Deaf Education system and have the Deaf Education restored to its rightful place and even promote more languages including North American Sign Language. The problem is English that has gobbled up so many languages around the world. ASL has survived and how could ASL be blamed for destroying ISL. I find that his article is irresponsible!

@Salticid68 No not at you... just get it out of my chest at those people. I am glad we understand very clear about how it happened. You have a great summer too! Thanks!

@Banerika, and if any cultural group is to be "blamed" for the disappearance of ISL, it is the majority culture, which has control (power) over the education system for Native Americans and for Deaf.

I often see people who consider themselves intelligent, not understanding the idea that there is a power differential between the majority culture and the minority culture (s). Perhaps this is because we are all brought up in a country that propagandizes itself ad infinitum as a classless society in which everyone is equal. However, the fact of the matter is, that power is not allocated equally. Who is in charge of Deaf education? Members of the powerful majority culture, the hearing. Cont.

@deafchipmunk Hi! Yes, I understood you that ASL wasn't accountable for the extinct of Native American sign language. I didn't say you were wrong. I agree with you. I just like to share some information like many of us do. Happy Summer!

@allisonpeace Hi Kat, I tried to put his website address here in the box, but it declined to be posted. I'm not certain of it. I'll try that in a different way. If I find a solution, I'll let you know.
