He is trying to remind people about the inevitable death that is waiting for them, saying that in the grave they will be alone by them self in the dark with no relatives or wealth beside them. In all; reminding people to be grateful with what they have.

I wonder why the prophets didn't use threatening and fear to preach people about their God!
All these billions when they followed religion expected forgiveness and happiness from God Almighty when they seek refuge not death sentence and torture.
