A composition of mine, dedicated to one of my favourite actresses - the remarkable Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 -- August 5, 1962)

Lyrics:

Marilyn, Marilyn,
Your brief life was but a dream,
But there were moments, only moments,
When it seemed that you might win,

You were lonely and so helpless
Like a leaf blown in a storm,
There was no one to console you,
With a love to keep you warm.

Oh Marilyn, Oh Marilyn,
Marilyn, Marilyn.
Yes there were times of adulation,
Adoration the game to play,

They came to believe you were an angel,
Until they saw your feet of clay
Marilyn, Marilyn,
You were true and genuine,

Men did not believe you, tried to deceive you
To destroy your soul within.
Life was hopeless, without meaning,
You were longing for the end,.

And those about you, began to doubt you,
When all you needed was a friend
Oh Marilyn, Oh Marilyn,
Marilyn, Marilyn.

  • David - I enjoyed this poignant composition - so movingly sung and well accompanied. The video mix of still & movie was excellent. The Kennedys among others treated her badly but she was insecure and in some ways her own worst enemy. A beautiful & talented comedy actress, though - eg Sugar Kowalski in 'Some Like it Hot'. Well done.

  • I second the comments below, David - a characteristically sensitive and lyrical composition and performance, and a lovely tribute.

  • Another excellent composition, words and music by David Flatau. Marilyn; the song's lyrics have been written with great feeling by the composer demonstrating the accomplishments and frustrations of Marilyn Monroe. The music also fits in perfectly with the lyrics and is easy to remember. I wish you David, great success with this latest composition and hope it gets recognised by song publishers. Good luck, Tony
