Malmesbury, in Wiltshire, celebrated the 1000th anniversary of Eilmer of Malmesbury's first manned flight by hosting a kite festival.
I took the opportunity to test the Zacuto Tactical Shooter rig with my Canon 550D, with a Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 G lens, before taking it on a tricky event shoot.
This film is 100% hand-held without the use of any image stabilisation. Just like a news shoot, there's no chance to do a second take, the action is unpredictable, your money shot turns out disappointing, and the best bits for the edit are made up of a ten minute window of a day's shoot.
But the displays were spectacular, and yes - I have bought a kite, and yes, it will take a camera!
Yes and it did, two very good years, will be back for year three hopefully. yahooooooo

Following on from the very successful Kite Festival masterminded by Cllr Catherine Doody last year, plans are afoot to run another this summer. It will take place on 23rd and 24th July 2011 up on the Wortheys, the green space overlooking the town. A working party has been set up to make the event even bigger and better.
