  • Rapid progress, in human terms, means rapid extinction.

  • People don't glorify at the altar of CAUTION for nothing! They know from historical narrative that humans always specialize in folly and misery and exploitation and every sin. It's a given that progress will slowly grind forward and that Ray Kurzweil will die long before we ever reach a stage where people will even live 150 years, let alone anything more than that.

  • It's the danger these technologies threaten us with that will stop his singularity from happening, in fact. Progress will stall and move much slower than he predicts.

And that's NOT a bad thing. It's human nature to kill and destroy and murder. That's what's missing from his equation. This means that centralized government and aggressive military tactics to defend the species is the NORM and will prevent rapid progress at the expense of the system.

  • With powerful technologies we must PREEMPT attack. We cannot afford an actual attack. This was the case with the threat of nuclear war. When viruses become so powerful that they can shutdown the internet, for example, that's when you will see government slam down with an iron fist on internet freedom. This has to be kept in mind when going into the future.

  • He states that we cannot and should not regulate these new technologies because the internet is the proof of concept that we don't have to. But he's missing the fact that the internet is still young and other countries (during times of war) have only begun to grapple with how to use viruses to attack another nation. Terrorists just beginning, as well, to understand the threat and exploit it. So I think it's premature to assume that a unregulated and free internet is best for the future.

  • Technology is INEVITABLE, as is the Technological Singularity, & ANY attempts to derail the natural Impetus of OUR Evolutionary processes has only caused chaos & devastation.-

This IS naturally our evolution & where we're at & to disrupt or Attempt to stifle, seize or create stasis is the True danger. Our entire world as we perceive it will change, bringing NEW solutions to potential over-population. All such obstacles shall be solved along WITH the technology & will easily be averted.
