In defense of Robert Downey Jr. a few old friends of mine were on the nymex floor during the day of this filming. There was an employee on the nymex floor who was a homosexual and wasn't afraid to show it. Everyday traders on the floor used to taunt him and say cruel jokes. When Mr. Downey saw this he began defending the the man, then the traders began taunting Downey in a huge way.

@HisEmptyHouse without traders there would be no liquidity in the market though. You need traders in an economy to provide liquidity for price hedging. NO TRADERS=NO LIQUIDITY.

@marked221 You bring up good points about the cult of celebrity being overblown but I really do not think it a good idea to dismiss people's opinions because they are actors. Being an actor doesn't render someone unintelligent or mean they can't carry worthwhile opinions. There are a lot of very bright people who are actors, and who actually do have important things to say - there are a rare few who talk the talk AND walk the walk. George Clooney for example has my respect for that reason.

I would like to witness a movie making set with all of those narcissistic actors who contribute nothing of value to society. They are WAY too overpaid. It’s embarrassing that we place these people on a pedestal, listen to their political rhetoric, and passively permit their lives to dominate a quarter of our national news. This video portrays attributes of the human animal that are also found in acting world. The big difference is that one deals with reality while the other deals with fantasy.

3 things.

1)RDJ has a networth of $85 million... and he continues to make nothing but big time movies... so if anyone's money-hungry it's him.

2)RDJ is talking shit... therefore he is a shit talker... but he's judging people for talking shit...

3)All of his movies are at least 1.5+ hours long. Now having to endure 1.5 hours of any of his self obsessed characters is hell.

according to Leah McGrath Goodman's book, The Asylum, one of the traders said Downey looked like a "faggot" because of his hair. which gives some context (along with spaul410's comment)

DanW900: the book also points out that the vast majority of trading happens in the 'dark market', not 'open market' pits ... the over-the-counter dark market is completely secretive (and also the NYMEX floor no longer exists.. its electronic now)
