The Winchester Mystery House - San Jose, California

Built by Sarah Winchester, the Winchester Rifle heiress, beginning in 1884, this massive Victorian mansion was modern for its time and features 160 rooms, 3 elevators and 47 fireplaces. The Mystery House got its name due to the heiress' continual construction over 38 years and her obsession with the supernatural. She believed the spirits of those killed by a Winchester firearm would haunt her unless she continued to build onto her home. She also had an affinity for the number 13 and spider webs which can be seen in design motifs throughout the complex. Guided tours ensure visitors don't get lost in the maze of rooms and the tour guides provide insight and theories behind the design elements in the house. Tour prices range from $19.95 to $28.95 and are subject to change. Tours start at 9AM and go until 7PM depending on the season. Admission is free to the gift shop.

Amazing house, but what an eerie story.

The Winchester Mystery House was referenced on the TV Show Gilmore Girls, so that's where I first heard about it.

I almost got to see it last time I was in San Fransisco, but didn't make it. I think it'd be cool to see, though.

i've i been there cuz i live in san jose and people say its haunted but i've never seen anything there so if you go at night you might see somethin i really dont know but i like going there but the thing i thought was wired was that the seps were really low they weren't like really stairs ans sarah winchester has 13 of everything like windows like stuff like that and she also has a door to nowhere which i thought was wired but overall i liked going there so you people should go too.

I've been there already, I didn't find it scary or anything, one tip: The owner(?) of the house fave no. is 13, so every you'd look there'd be 13 of it. Like 13 windows, and stuff :)
