Very little is known about Willie Lane. His main influence was the 1930's Texas blues artist J.T. Smith. Lane backed Smith on a few Vocalion recordings in 1935 that were not issued. He recorded one session in 1949 for the Fort Worth, TX. labels Talent & Star Talent that were issued in their 800 "black artist" series, a company that mostly specialized in country & western music. His label dubbed him as "Little Brother" on his two records. There was a Willie Lane that was also called "Little Brother"when he recorded for the Library of Congress in the 1930's. Blues historians do not believe that they are the one and same artist.
